Sweet Shared Victory

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Lately my life has been consumed watching the Olympics and nothing makes you feel less accomplished than seeing people 8 years younger than you competing for medals while the world watches on. I mean when I was 16 just getting up before 5pm on a Saturday was impressive, I decided to start aiming low pretty early on you see in the great words of Homer…. Simpson “The lesson is ‘never try’” ahhhh such wisdom. Also nothing makes you feel more unhealthy, I am sure I’m not the only one sitting in my pj’s on the sofa munching on BBQ Doritos and spinach dip feeling exhausted just watching them skate around that track. For a split second I feel inspired to work out, then I think about what that actually means, hours sweating and panting looking like a big red sweaty tomato, suddenly that desire to run on a treadmill like I’m chasing after the last cupcake on earth just disappears.

The Olympics does have some good effects though, for example I now seem to think I’m Canadian which is amusing I find my self saying “OMG I hope we win”, we? when did I become Canadian and how do I feel I am contributing enough to any team to consider the success of athletes even partially mine. I mean I don’t watch the Grammys and hope “we” win best album even though I have listened to Lady GaGa’s album like it is some sort of religious ritual. I also love the freedom it gives me to pretend I get sports suddenly using every hockey term I have overhead and praying I used them at a reasonable time, the downside is when the person your watching it with does understand sports and replies…. luckily there is a phrase for just this moment “Totally…GO CANADA”, works every time or in case of emergency say anything anti-USA but not about 911 because then you hit a “too soon” moment.

To sum up: Eat Junk, Watch TV and Revel in the reflected glory of others :)

Ahhhhhh Update Time

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Life…… Life is insane for example its already nearly the end of January!!! I mean ARE YOU SERIOUS?? I can’t believe it. So I haven’t got around to talking much about the new year really. It is 2010 which is the year I turn 25………. yes 25, I am kinda feeling blah about it but life feels like it is slowly getting on track as well so that part is pretty good. I am planning to spend this year doing a few things;

  1. Surrounding myself with good people
  2. laughing and smiling a lot
  3. getting more done
  4. feeling good about who i am
  5. being more positive

So there it is, my goal list. I didn’t set any like concrete goals because honestly this yeah I am just here to enjoy the ride :) If I could give some advice it would be;

  1. don’t sweat the small stuff
  2. tell people how you feel
  3. be true to who you are
  4. don’t worry about impressing anyone but you

and maybe most importantly LOVE,  Love like you have never been hurt and allow yourself to be at risk because if you don’t your not reall playin the game

Movie Time – Elegy

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Elegy is one of my all time favorite movies, this review will contain spoilers because I am more discussing why I relate and love the movie so much. Click away if you don`t want to know the story and just go watch it because it is amazing.

So why, why do I love this movie so much? Because it is raw and honest and cuts to the bone. David Kepesh reminds me so much of who I could become, who I was…am perhaps. He moves from woman to woman trying to run away from growing up and eventually he finds out that the years pass whether you wish to acknowledge them or not. Time doesn’t care if we try to live young, it doesn’t discriminate. The long list of magnificent quotes in this movie which rings so true are just amazing. The end reminds us that everyday we get is one we shouldn’t take lightly, love comes and love goes just as we do, You never know, you just never know if tomorrow will be the first of many or the last of few. I try to live my life the best way I can but we all make mistakes and we all have fears and like Kepesh I find myself scared of growing up, of surrendering to what is expected but at the same time wanting that love and companionship in my life.

Every year my birthdays feel closer and closer together and the months seem to fly by. I think it gets scary at this age because your just old enough to realize that you…. yes YOU are going to die…. it’s not optional, it is. Sometimes I find myself taken back by that truth, I wonder how it will feel and if I will regret. I wonder if I would be missed, I wonder who I will miss. This movie is the most honest depiction of this painful truth because he did everything you could and lived a wonderful life and in the end, his friends, his love…. it will all be gone and there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

Movie Time – Funny People

funny-people

Ok so I watched Funny people, Just so you know I love everyone who was in it so this may be a little biased. I also have the sense of humor of a pre-pubescent boy so penis jokes crack me up. That said this movie was kinda good and really bad at the same time. In parts it was hilarious (Ref the comment about penis jokes) and in other parts it was just uber lame… like the ending which was BULLSHIT!! But maybe thats just me I love a happy ending where love conquers all and this, this is not that movie. However if you like me still think penis jokes are funny im sure you will get at least a few laughs out of it and maybe you will like the ending…. maybe you suck lol… i don’t know you…. but if you like the ending that does mean you are kind of dead to me… no I still love you… anyways point was not a bad watch but not one i will be rushing the local Walmart to get on DVD either.

Movie Time – Paranormal Activity

paranormal activity posterSo tonight we went to see Paranormal Activity and we were really pleasantly surprised if you enjoy Japanese Horror it’s pretty Likely you will enjoy this movie it creeps you out and when you get home you may begin to question noises, sounds and things around your apartment. If I had a complaint I really don’t know what it would be most of the dialogue was very good and realistic there was the odd weird bit but generally it was really very good. I would recommend you go see it and I really don’t know if the big screen helped it maybe I will update this when I have watched it on DVD.

Geek Time – Is Vista Satan?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Ok so I got a new PC and it runs 64-Bit Vista (until my windows 7 upgrade arrives) and the question I posed was is it Satan? the answer????

Well no it’s more like your mother when you were a teenager, you knew she meant well didn’t stop her just popping up at the worst times, if you know what I mean. It runs actually smoother than I thought, if you can ignore the warning messages every 2 seconds and checking you really really REALLY wanted to do what your trying to do.

On the bright side the “gadgets” on the right side of the screen are definitely my thing, right now I can check my twitter right on my desktop and I can leave little post it’s to myself. I also like the semi-transparent windows, so graphically it’s really quite nice to use.

I run CS3 and listen to music regularly and haven’t noticed too many problems with it lagging on anything like that, mind you I will say I have 214GB and only 135 used as I keep all my stuff on an external 500GB drive, so I don’t know how much this is helping it.

I think provided you have AMPLE hard-driove space and RAM Vista isn’t a bad system to run, just breath with the alerts and remember “it’s for your own good”

Oh Isn’t Obama Sweet……..BUT WHEN??

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

“We should not be punishing patriotic Americans who have stepped forward to serve this country,” Obama said at the weekend. “We should be celebrating their willingness to show such courage and selflessness on behalf of their fellow citizens, especially when we’re fighting two wars.” US President Barak Obama

Ok so he is now once again on the no really I am going to help team, but WHEN that’s what I want to know the million dollar question is when??? When will you be doing this, it is nice to have the idea but we don’t need idea’s we need action! I don’t know about everyone else but politicians saying the right thing isn’t the challenge it’s in the follow through. I have gone on before about how insane I believe it is that these men and women can risk their lives in war but not live their lives once they get home, and I respect that change takes time. But President Obama said he would bring change and we are all waiting on this change, is he just another politician with good intentions and no good actions? Did we all make a mistake by being all for him in the election? maybe the GLBT community is too quick to trust people at their word? Time will tell…..

The Newleywed Game Gets Gay Contestants.

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Star couple ex-Star Trek star George Takei and his businessman partner Brad Altman will become the first-ever gay couple to appear in long-running TV gameshow The Newlywed Game when it returns soon.

The couple have been together for 22 years and married last year in California before the State’s laws were changed to block same-sex marriages.

“What we want is to display the normality and the joy of having a happy union,” Takei says.

To win the show, contestants must answer various fun questions about their partner, to prove how much they really know about their ‘newlywedded’ spouse.
